MY JOURNEY

In 2006 I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia(FM).  My family doctor didn’t believe me.  He kept saying it was my depression.  By the time I  got a referral to a rheumatologist I could hardly move the pain was so bad and I had 18 out 18 tender points.   I have to digress here.  About 12-14 years prior to this diagnosis I was hit with a bout of major depression so bad, I say I had a nervous breakdown.  That is the only way I could describe it.

My job entailed standing for long periods of time when I was busy.  At times it was stressful.  So was my home life. I went on disability July of 2006.  Anyone who has FM knows stress is a major trigger to bring on a severe attack.   These attacks can lasts hours, days, months even years depending on how you handle them.   Like many people I was in a constant state of pain until one day in 2008 I got fed up and said I wasn’t going to live like this anymore!!!

The first thing I did was get off of Lyrica!!!  That made a major difference in how I felt.  The veil was lifted off my brain.  I then detoxified my body for a month.  (no wheat, no white, no rice, no sugar, no processed food) Luckily my doctors never gave me narcotics for pain so I was not addicted to any.  After the month, the only thing I brought back into my diet was whole grain foods like brown rice, whole wheat pasta etc…   To this day I do not have any white in my house; no sugar, no white flour, no white bread.

I also became a Reiki Practitioner.  I had Reiki done once before and it was such a great experience.  I started researching other alternative health care modalities but decided on Reiki.  With Reiki I was introduced to meditation.  The calming and peaceful effects that meditation gave me were remarkable.  The stress was washed away.  With ongoing Reiki treatments and daily meditation I started to see a big difference.  The doom and gloom and stress on my face was replaced by a look of peace and smiles.  People started saying I looked different.  I looked younger than I did 6 years ago.  I felt younger too.

I had a new life!  A new lifestyle.  It was not a diet or regime that I could follow only for a few months until I get well.  I have to do this for life!!  If I go back to the old way of living I will go back to the old way of feeling!!  I tried it and that is exactly what happened.  It didn’t take long.  Less than a month and I was back to that toxic lump.  I don’t ever want to go back there again.

I also have osteo and inflammatory arthritis.  Exercise for me is my nemesis!!  We have a love/hate relationship.  I hate to exercise, and I will find every excuse in the book not to, but once I do it I feel great afterwards.  WARNING: Do not overdo the exercise or you will feel the price for it days afterwards. (if you get my drift) Walking is my best choice.

In July’09 I went to McDonald’s and thought I would treat myself to a milkshake.  That treat got me sick to my stomach.  I haven’t had any fast food since.  I feel healthier today than I have in over 20 years!!  Stress still effects me, or I should say still triggers the FM which is a chronic condition that will be with me.  However, I have it under control, it doesn’t control me!

There is no cure for FM.  You have to keep it under control or else it will consume you like toxic waste has filled your body.  I have made a complete lifestyle change.  A few slip ups back to the old way have proven that there is no going back.

As of writing this article I now know 15 of my family, friends and acquaintances who have been diagnosed with FM.  If everyone with FM knows 15 people and they know 15 people and so on and so on and so on….  Hmmmmmm!

WHAT ARE THEY HIDING!!!!

Have a Great Day!!
